Apodemus argenteus used green leaves or fallen leaves for nest material and often hoarded nuts of Castanea crenata, berries of Padus grayana, and beech mast of Fagus crenata (Nakamura & Kojo 2011). Apodemus argenteus left brownish-red feces with the shape like wheat grain (length 2–5 mm; diameter 1.5–2.5 mm; Nakajima 2001 ).

Two congeneric species of Japanese field mice, Apodemus speciosus and Apodemus argenteus, differ considerably in their feeding strategies and habitat utilizations. Although both species are omnivorous, previous studies demonstrated that A. argenteus typically eats a wide variety of food items than A. speciosus.

Two species of field mice, Apodemus argenteus and A. speciosus, occur in sympatry across the Japanese archipelago. The inter- and intraspecific patterns of morphological differentiation have been evaluated, using a Fourier analysis of the mandible outline. The relative importance of the effect of insular isolation and latitudinal climatic gradient The size and spatial distribution of home ranges in two sympatric field mouse species, Apodemus speciosus and Apodemus argenteus, were revealed by the capture-recapture method in a temperate deciduous forest from June 1987 to June 1990. In A. speciosus, the home ranges of males were significantly larger tha those of females, and overlapped with Apodemus species with the five variables selected by stepwise method. Fig. 2.

In Japan, two endemic species of cavity-nesting small rodents, the Japanese dormouse Glirulus japonicus and the small Japanese field mouse Apodemus argenteus (Kaneko 2005), have overlapping distributions in the montane and alpine forests of the central Honshu region (Kawamichi 1996, Abe et al. 2008). On the other hand, Apodemus argenteus, the smaller of the two species, showed a similar level of sequence divergence (maximum of 3%) but no substantial geographic differentiation: populations in Apodemus argenteus [2] [3] är en däggdjursart som först beskrevs av Coenraad Jacob Temminck 1844.
